Launched in 1969, ‘The Judge’ was the most colorful and powerful of the GTO line up. The Judge name came from Rowan & Martin’s Laugh-In. Laugh In was a variety show that often featured comedy skits. One famous skit was:”Here Comes the Judge”. Pontiac commercials and print ads for their new “Judge” used slogans like “All rise for The Judge” and “The Judge can be bought.” The original idea was that the Judge was to be a stripped down GTO to go head to head with Plymouth’s Road Runner. However, the GTO Judge became the top of the line GTO. So much for the original plan. The base Judge was more expensive than a standard GTO, and included the Ram Air III engine, Rally II wheels, a Hurst shifter, Judge specific stripes and decals, as well as a rear spoiler. “Carousel Red,” was the only color you get a Judge in early 1969; however, later in the 1969 model year other colors became available. The Judge continued into 1970. Below are some photographs of a 1970 Ram Air IV GTO Judge in black. Enjoy.
