Drag Test !!! 2013 Nissan GTR GT-R vs 2012 Mercedes E63 AMG BiTurbo w/o Performance Package – Road Test TV

March 25th, 2012 by Road Test TV

After breaking in our new 2012 Mercedes E63 AMG V8 BiTurbo, we decided it was time to get a few baseline 1/4 mile passes before making any modifications. We intentionally ordered our 2012 E63 without Mercedes Benz’s $7,300.00 Performance Package option since we plan to make modifications which would nullify any horsepower gain that the Performance Package adds, and we did not want the stiffer suspension settings. Also, the Performance Package for 2012 does not include a limited slip differential which is instead a stand alone $2,030.00 option.

Other than getting red calipers, a little stiffer suspension, a carbon fiber engine cover, and alcantara on your steering wheel, the only real performance you get from the $7300.00 Performance Package comes from raising the boost through software on the E63’s turbos from 14.5 to 18.8 psi. Also, the speed limiter is raised via software from 155 mph to 186 mph. However, all of the engine hardware (including the turbochargers) is the same. We would have gladly paid the extra money for AMG’s Performance Package if it included a Limited Slip Differential and enhanced hardware such as larger turbos.

P30pkg – AMG Performance Package **E63 AMG: $7,300

U70 – Red Brake Calipers
251 – Top Speed Raised to 186mph
281 – AMG Performance Steering Wheel
486 – Sport Suspension (n/a Wagon)
923 – Additional Power (550 hp and 590 lb-ft)
Carbon Fiber Engine Cover

Back to the drag strip….. As luck would have it, we also were able to have a brand new 545 horsepower 2013 Nissan GT-R available for a drag test as well. To our surprise, the non PP E63 ran a stout 12.08 at over 116 mph in +1200 DA air with 76 percent humidity. The 2013 GT-R ran an astounding best of 11.01 @ 123 mph. Equally impressive was that the 2012 E63 ripped from 0 to 60 mph in only 3.9 seconds (VBox).

Performance stats for 2012 E63 (VBox):

0 to 60 mph            3.9 seconds
0 to 100 mph          8.9 seconds
60 to 130 mph       11.2 seconds

0 to 100 km/h        4.2 seconds
0 to 160 km/h        8.8 seconds
100 to 200 km/h    9.4 seconds
