Drag Test Video !! RENNtech Tuned 2012 Mercedes Benz E63 AMG BiTurbo – 11.15 @ 126.7 mph (204 km/h) on stock tires.

Those of you who have been following our 2012 Mercedes Benz E63 V8 BiTurbo project know that we recently did some baseline quarter mile runs with our Non-Performance Package (Non PP) car. The results were impressive as our bone stock E63 laid down a stout 12.06 @ 116 mph on stock rubber in the Florida heat. With the baseline runs out of the way, and since we can’t leave well enough alone, we decided it was time to start the mods. First step: ECU tune.
There are a lot of tuners making claims of huge power gains from tuning the new Mercedes BiTurbo motors. We wanted to make sure the tuner we selected would tune our car safely, make power, and still be in business a year from now if something went wrong. It seems like new tuners pop up every day on the internet. Some stay in business,… some don’t. With that in mind, we narrowed our choice to Brabus and Renntech. Since Renntech has been doing a lot of research and development on the new M157 platform V8 BiTurbo as well as racing it, we decided to give them the nod.
To verify Renntech’s claims, we decided to dyno our E63 before and after it was tuned. Mercedes is generally conservative with its power figures, and the dyno numbers confirm that they did it again with our non PP 2012 E63. On a Dynojet dynamometer at RENNtech, our 5.5 liter V8 BiTurbo E63 made 555 horsepower and 545 ft-lbs of torque (471.09 horsepower and 463.80 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels). Again, our E63 is rated at 518 hp and 516 ft/lbs of torque. In sum, the our E63 made approximately 40 horsepower and 40 ft/lbs of torque more than the factory claims.
Now here is where things get interesting. With only a tune, our 2012 E63 V8 BiTurbo picked up over 100 horsepower and nearly 160 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels!! (578.33 horsepower and 621.93 ft/lbs of torque at the wheels). That’s a whopping 680 horsepower and 732 ft-lbs of torque at the crank. We were please to say the least. Next stop…… Palm Beach International Raceway to Drag Test our E63 on steroids.
As we were driving to the track, to our dismay, the roads were soaking wet, humidity was high and the temperature was hovering around 80 degrees Fahrenheit. Unfortunately, this is not unusual in Florida. Since we don’t get discouraged easily, we continued driving to the track. To our surprise the techs at PBIR dried the drag strip and were allowing cars to make passes. Recognizing that the conditions were not optimum, we didn’t expect much. However, we got a big surprise when our E63 laid down an impressive 11.15 @ 126.7 mph (204 km/h) in the quarter mile (see video below). Remember, this car was on stock tires and bone stock other than a tune. Needless to say, the new E63 is a monster and capable of running high 10s with only a tune in good cool air.
Its clear that Mercedes Benz has answered our horsepower and torque prayers with the new 5.5 liter AMG V8 BiTurbo engine. In the not so distant past, we longed for the horsepower and torque of the old E55’s V8 Kompressor engine since the naturally aspirated E63 left a little to be desired. Now AMG fans can rejoice as the new 5.5 liter Biturbo brings AMG V8 power to a new level.

[…] The M157 never seizes to impress…. Here is a RENNtech modified W212 Non-Performance package E63 hit 11.15 @ 126.7 mph in Florida heat (80F, 80% humidity, 1200 ft DA) with TUNE-ONLY (stock tires, stock exhaust, stock filters, etc…). In just a little better weather, I really think that car could've hit 10s. Here is the link to the full story, enjoy http://www.roadtesttv.com/drag-test-…mh-stock-tires […]
