Its not very often that you see a Mercedes Benz SL65 at the dragstrip, and it is less often that you see a Mercedes running the 1/4 mile in the 10s. However, we recently captured a RENNtech tuned Mercedes Benz SL65 making a world record 10 second run down the 1/4 mile at Palm Beach International Raceway. With no drama, the V12 BiTurbo convertible Benz ripped off the line and devoured the quarter mile in 10.83 seconds at 128.27 mph (206 km/h). The former record for an SL65 according to DragTimes.com was 10.85 @ 124 mph.

Those times will give a lightly modded GT-R owner a headache, while the SL owner is wrapped in luxury. Keep in mind, the only modifications to this record setting SL65 were a RENNtech airbox, RENNtech tune and Hoosier drag radials. Everything else is factory stock, including the turbos, exhaust, intercoolers, etc. (as an aside – Check out the Grand National in the left lane wagging its tail down the entire track).

FYI, this is the same SL65 that was running 11.50s to 11.60 at 119 – 120 mph when stock.
