Porsche has finally released all the official specifications of the brand new Porsche 918 Spyder supercar – and they are quite interesting.

“The 918 Spyder reveals its close links to motorsport in a variety of ways,” Porsche said in a statement. It has been designed, developed and produced by Porsche engineers who build race cars, in cooperation with series production specialists. A great deal of insight gained from the development of Porsche race cars for the 24 hours race in Le Mans in 2014 is thus integrated into the 918 Spyder and vice versa. The structural concept of the 918 Spyder with a rolling chassis as its basis a basic vehicle that can be driven even without a body is race car tradition at Porsche. The concept of the V8 engine originates from the LMP2 RS Spyder race car. The load-bearing structures, the monocoque and subframe, are made of carbon fiber reinforced polymer. Porsche has many years of experience with this high-strength, lightweight construction material and has again achieved top results with the development of the series production 918 Spyder. Many parts of the super sports car come from manufacturers who have a proven record as suppliers for motorsport vehicles.”

Quite an interesting blend.

Porsche 918 Spyder makes a total combined output of 887-hp allowing it to go from 0 to 62 mph in 2.7 seconds with a top speed of 198 mph.

Take Johan Schwartz, a BMW Performance Center Instructor, and take an unmodified BMW M5 sedan – what do you get? An event where the Guinness World Record for the longest sustained drift is smashed… by a lot.

Schwartz recently took a BMW M5 and drifted the car around a skid pad for a total of 51.278 miles. The previous record was set in February in Abu Dhabi at a total of 6.95 miles. Schwartz complete a total of 322.5 laps around the 841 foot round pad.

“I’m proud for many reasons,” Schwartz said. “Obviously for the new Guinness Book of World Record Drift, 51.278 miles (82.506 kilometers), but more importantly for the friends and sponsors who were able to make it, giving hot lap rides after the record drift and all the money that was raised for the BMW Charity Pro-Am presented by SYNNEX Corporation.”

The record-breaking drift brought in over $20,000 in charitable donations for The BMW Charity Pro-Am, which benefits more than 150 different charities.

Here it is – after all the wait, the 2014 Mercedes-Benz S Class is finally here with three new engineering priorities. Mercedes-Benz says that the new S-Class embodies three engineering priorities including Intelligent Drive, Efficient Technology and Essence of Luxury.

“Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were ‘the best or nothing’ in every respect,” said Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars. “No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class.”

The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S Class will be available in a couple of trim levels including the S350 BlueTEC, the S500, and the S400 Hybrid. The S350 BlueTEC will be powered by a 3.0-liter V6 diesel engine that produces 258-hp and allows the S-Class to run from 0 to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds with a top speed of 155 mph. The S500 will be powered by a 4.7 liter V8 making 455-hp with the ability to go from rest to 62 mph in 4.8 seconds and the S400 Hybrid will be powered by a 3.5 liter V6 engine mated to an electric-motor. That will allow it to produce 306-hp with the ability to go from 0 to 62 mph in 6.8 seconds.

Check out the list of technology features below:

- Headlamps: each with up to 56 LEDs
- Tail lights: each with up to 35 LEDs (plus 4 for the rear fog lamp)

The upcoming Porsche 918 Spider is not a finished car and is still in the final stages of development. However, when Porsche asks if you want a quick spin in a development 918 you get on the plane with a joy and excitement and rush over.

The guys over at DRIVE on YouTube (and Chris Harris) recently test-drive the upcoming Porsche 918 Spyder and decided to bring along all their camera equipment to film it all.

The Porsche 918 Spyder is powered by a naturally aspirated 4.6 liter V8 making 599-hp at 8600 rpm. Two electric motors – one mounted on the front axle, another at the rear – add an additional 275-hp. Together, the three power sources pump out 875-hp.

Things just keep getting better for Tesla Motors and their Model S electric sedan. According to CNNMoney, Tesla outsold the Mercedes-Benz S-Class, the BMW 7 Series and the Audi A8 in the first quarter of 2013.

CNNMoney found out that Tesla sold a total of 4,750 units while Mercedes-Benz sold 3,077 S-Class models, BMW sold 2,338 7 Series models and Audi sold 1,462 A8 units.

Obviously one explanation for this is that the Model S starts at $69,900 while its competitors all start around $75,000 to $93,000.

Tesla has raised its Model S sales estimates for this year from 20,000 to 21,000.

Other upgrades for the 2014 model year include, Automatic Parking Assist (FWD models), Electric power steering (FWD models), Intellibeam headlamps, Rear-seat entertainment system, Front passenger seat memory feature, Revised rear-seat armrest with wood trim, radio controls and sunshade control along with a opaque sunroof sunshade.

The 2014 XTS is offered in a well-equipped standard model and three optional collections: Luxury, Premium and Platinum. The XTS Platinum represents the highest level of technology and luxury, including a unique front appearance, wheels and interior colors, materials and trim.
