2011 Porsche 911 Carrera GTS – 408 hp! – Road Test TV
September 15th, 2010 by Road Test TV
Road Test TV – For 2011, Porsche has a new Carrera for you if the Carrera S is too soft and the GT3 is too hardcore. Its called the 911 Carrera GTS, and its new for 2011.
The body is the same wide body used on the Carrera 4, so the GTS will not be a departure from the current 911. However, resting in the back of the GTS is an upgraded 3.8-liter flat-six with 408 wailing horsepower (23 more than the standard S; however, 27 less than the GT3). The Carrera GTS also puts down a respectable 310 pound-feet of torque, all in at 4,200 rpm – 200 rpm sooner than the Carrera S.
The Carrera GTS comes standard with a six-speed manual transmission with the seven-speed Porsche Doppelkupplungsgetriebe (PDK) available as an option. The optional sports chrono is available and makes for a nice combination with the PDK gear box. Using launch control on a PDK equipped Carrera GTS should make for some very interesting and very quick sprints to 60 mph. Porsche claims 0 to 60 mph in 4 seconds flat (Click here for a video of a Carrera 4S launch with the PDK transmission). In comparison with the Carrera S, top speed for manual transmission Carrera GTS Coupe rises by two mph to 190 (306 km/h). And the new Carrera GTS will offer fuel economy of up to 19 mpg city / 27 mpg highway. Very impressive stats.
The GTS is distinguished from the Carrera by its standard 19-inch center-lock RS Spyder wheels (optional on the Carrera S), SportDesign front and rear fascias, black Alcantara trim and a variety of other body and interior trim pieces to set it apart.
The Carrera GTS will be formally introduced at the Paris Auto Show and should go on sale shortly thereafter. The price of the Carrera GTS coupe will start at $103,100, whereas the cabriolet GTS will start at $112,900 before options.
