Here’s some exciting and interesting news coming out of Italy. According to Ferrari Chairman Luca Montezemolo, the brand wants to limi sales of its high-performance cars to below 7,000 units a year to protect the brand’s exclusivity.

That’s right – selling a lot of cars is a bad thing. Montezemolo says that Ferrari wants sales to drop by ‘more than 1 or 2 percent’ from last year’s sales of 7,318 cars.

Sadly, Ferrari’s sales in the first four months of 2013 have risen 4 percent over last year.

Montezemolo said that the “the exclusivity of Ferrari is fundamental for the value of our products. We made the decision to make fewer cars because otherwise we risk injecting too many cars on the market.”

The chairman says that Ferrari’s engine business, which supplies powertrains to sibling brand Maserati – will help keep revenues on target.
