VL Destino

A company by the name of VL, whose executive team includes Bob Lutz, recently unveiled their Destino plug-in hybrid supercar at the 2013 New York Auto Show. The VL Destino, however, is based on the Fisker Karma and Fisker has been inching closer to bankruptcy everyday. So what’s going to happen to the Destino?

According to VL boss Gilbert Villarreal the company has already obtained 20 Karmas from Fisker without batteries and an electric powertrain. He said that the company may also buy additional Karmas from dealerships who will eventually liquidate their inventory.

That means production of the Destino will go on. Villarreal’s partner Bob Lutz recently said that many Fisker customers have approached the company about converting their cars into a Destino and Lutz says the conversion could cost between $85,000 to $90,000.

Lutz also confirmed that the VL Destino will use a supercharged 6.2 liter V8 from the Cadillac CTS-V. Sounds pretty good to us.
