Report: Volvo has no plans for a large luxury sedan
May 1st, 2013 by Road Test TV
Last year, before Stefan Jacoby stepped down as Vovlo’s CEO due to health conditions, he had plans to offer a large luxury sedan that he believed would lift Volvo’s image. However, Jacoby’s successor Hakan Samuelsson, is singing a different tune.
According to Samuelsson, Volvo will not be developing a sedan that will compete with the likes of the BMW 7 Series, Mercedes-Benz S Class or the Audi A8. Definitely not now, and maybe not ever.
Samuelsson told AutoCar that a large luxury sedan does not fit in Volvo’s image.
“We don’t have any ambitions to go into a segment where we would compete with vehicles that have V8 or V12 engines,” Samuelsson said. “We don’t believe it would fit our brand image.”
Talks of a luxury Volvo sedan started in 2010 after Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co. purchased the Swedish automaker from Ford $1.5 billion. I guess they will die here today.
