In 2013,  Infiniti, Nissan’s luxury division, plans to launch its first luxury all-electric vehicle.  The vehicle will be called the Infiniti EV.

Infiniti reports that the EV will be “a stylish, high performance five-seat luxury vehicle with zero emissions technology.”  Last year, Infiniti  announced its plans to market an all-electric vehicle; however, it  offered very few details.   The EV appears to be based on the Nissan Leaf platform – an-electric car from Nissan which is expected to go on sale later this year.  Nissan reportedly will have spent $5 billion by the end 2010 in an effort to become a leader in electric vehicle sales worldwide.

Infiniti Vice President Ben Poore said in a statement “This future EV will play a major part of Infiniti’s ‘eco performance’ strategy that will see a greater focus on hybrid and EV technology”.  Mr Poore also stated:  “We are committed to applying the world’s best technologies to reduce emissions without sacrificing driving excitement or engagement.”

In other Nissan news, Infiniti plans to display the 2012 M35h  (hybrid)  sedan at the Los Angeles auto show in November.  The M hybrid will deliver V-8 performance with 4-cylinder fuel economy.  The M hybrid is scheduled to go on sale in spring of 2011 and will produce approximately 302-horsepower from its 3.5-liter V-6 engine coupled with a 50 kilowatt electric motor with estimated 67 horsepower, according to Infiniti.
