2013 Lotus Esprit

Road Test TV – Lotus made a big splash at the 2010 Paris Auto with their concept of the 2013 Lotus Esprit.  By the looks of it, this combination of beauty and beast will be a hit if Lotus delivers and puts this car into production.  Why the Bond, reference in the thread title?  Lotus vehicles were used in three (3) Bond movies (can you guess which ones?).  I bet the next Mr. Bond is salivating to get his hands on this Lotus.

The 2013 Lotus Esprit concept has many visual cues of Lamborghini and Ferrari, however, the body seems to be less hard edged.  But when it comes to taking care of business, this Lotus should shine as it will be powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine that puts down a monstrous 612 horsepower.  Lotus’ new 5-liter V-8 is sourced from Toyota, where it is used in the Lexus IS-F. Lotus made numerous modifications, such as changing the engine management system, and adding a supercharger.  Red line has been raised to 8,500 rpm.  Lotus claims the new Esprit will rip from 0-62 mph in just 3.4 seconds and top out at 205 mph.  We like the sound of those performance numbers.  Green conscious power junkies will be able to order an optional hybrid system in the 2013 Lotus Esprit.  The Hybrid system uses a kinetic energy recovery system and two electric motors in the transmission for an extra boost of power.  This system is similar to hybrid units utilized in racing.

Unfortunately, we’ll all have to wait until to 2013 to get our hands on the new Lotus Esprit; however, based up it’s looks and performance, it will be worth the wait.
