The new BMW 3 Series Sedan is already on the market and the new BMW 4 Series Coupe is on its way as a replacement to the BMW 3 Series Coupe. However, BMW has yet to give any details on the next-generation M3 sedan and the M4 coupe. What can we expect in terms of powertrain, design and other upgrades? We went ahead and did some digging for you.

New reports suggest that the BMW M4 Concept will make its official debut at the 2013 Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance held in California next month. The concept will give us a complete look at what to expect from the BMW M3 Coupe when it hits markets next year. It will also give us a sneak peek into the powertrain technology that will be used on the M3 sedan as well.

Insiders say that BMW will be dropping the massive 414-hp 4.0 liter V8 in favor of a twin-turbo V6. Sources have reported that the 3.3 liter 6-cylinder twin-turbo unit will pump out a whopping 450-hp – significantly more than the outgoing V8.

Design wise, the BMW M4 Coupe will look much 4 Series Coupe you see in the pictures here (with the M Performance Package).

Other interesting details, as reported by AutoExpress, suggest that the M4 will use 80 percent different parts, including a bespoke version of BMW’s new modular engine, a 7-speed twin-clutch gearbox and completely overhauled suspension. It will also use extensive carbon-fiber body parts to cut weight.

The BMW M3 Sedan will follow the M4 Coupe later next year and will carry the same engine and technology as the M4.

Stay tuned for more details.
