2014 Ferrari LaFerrari 1Pininfarina has designed all Ferrari production cars since 1951 except for the 1973 Dino 308 GT4. The brand-new Ferrari LaFerrari that made its debut at the 2013 Geneva Motor Show was yet another Ferrari that wasn’t designed by Pininfarina. The Italian supercar decided to design the LaFerrari in-house and that has some industry analysts think that the historic Italian partnership between the two companies is on the rocks.

What exactly happened. Apparently Pininfarina did propose a design concept for the LaFerrari but ended up losing to Ferrari’s in-house team. According to, Ferrari CEO Amedeo Felisa, his company decided to go with their own team due to technical and aerodynamic advantages.

“There is nothing from Pininfarina in this car, but we are working with them on two other models,” said Ferrari Chairman Luca Cordero di Montezemolo.

So who heads Ferrari’s design team? A man by the name of Flavio Manzoni, the ex-head of design at Volkswagen.
