According to Maserati’s CEO Harald Wester, the company is working on its own version of the upcoming Alfa Romeo 4C two-seater sports car. The Maserati model will give the brand a chance to gun after cars like the Porsche 911 and the Jaguar F-Type.

Along with the new Maserati Quattroporte, Kubang SUV and the Ghibli the Alfa Romeo 4C based sports car will help push sales beyond 50,000 units a year by 2015.

The Alfa Romeo 4C is powered by a 1750 Turbo gasoline 4-cylinder engine making 240-hp with a maximum torque 258 lb-ft. Mated to a twin dry clutch transmission, the 4C coupe runs from 0 to 62 mph in 4.5 seconds. No word if Maserati will use the same engine.

Deliveries of the Alfa Romeo 4C start in Sept. 2013. Obviously prices for the Maserati version will come at a larger premium.
