Next-generation Tesla Roadster will push be very advanced, will be called Model R

For Tesla, the current priorities range form ramping up production for the Tesla Model S sedan followed by the Tesla Model X SUV. Following that, Tesla will start work on a more ‘affordable’ electric-sedan that will compete with the likes of the BMW 3 Series.

After all that is completed, Tesla Motors will revisit and rethink the successor to the Roadster.

Internally known as the Tesla Model R, the next-generation Roadster will be built on the company’s own platform instead of sharing architecture cost with Lotus.

Tesla, which expects its technology to be improved quite a bit in 5 years, says that the next Roadster will debut around that time and will push the envelope in terms of performance and overall range.
