We recently had the opportunity to sample a 2011 Porsche 911 997 Carrera 4S equipped with the Doppelkupplung (PDK) transmission. We drove the C4S throughout Europe, and enjoyed every moment behind the wheel. In a word, the car was flawless. The Carrera C4S is a refined vehicle that is comfortable, eats up the miles without issue, handles amazing, accelerates in near supercar territory and delivers pretty good gas mileage. That’s a nice combination.

The base price of the 2011 Porsche 911 C4S is $102,380.00 when equipped with the PDK transmission whereas the base price of a C4S with a manual transmission is $98,300.00. Initially, we were dissapointed that our car was equipped with the PDK; however, in short order, we learned to love it. A PDK equipped 911 is quicker than a manual shift vehicle (0 to 60 in 4.3 seconds for PDK vs 4.5 seconds for the manual) and the transmision’s performance is second to none. The video below shows how to use Porsche’s launch control on a 2011 Porsche 911 C4S when equipped with the PDK transmission, as well as the 997 C4S PDK’s acceleration from zero to 158 mph (255 km/h).
