April 1st, 2013 by Road Test TV
For all those eagerly awaiting arrival of their 2013 SRT Viper – rest assured, Chrysler Group LLC finally starting shipping the car from its Detroit Conner Assembly plant on Sunday.
The SRT brand’s CEO Ralph Gilles said that the company expects to sell a total of 1,000 units this year. “The business case works at far less than 2,000 a year,” Gilles said.
The Conner assembly plant makes a maximum of 14 units a day since the car is handmade.
The first 800 units will be shipping to customers in North America.
Gilles recently took his Viper home on Tuesday and drove it 30 miles before heading to the 2013 New York Auto Show. He said that when he picked up the car the plant lost some production time since “It was an emotional moment. The entire plant stopped, they all gathered around the car, took pictures and all applauded when we fired it up.”
