McLaren Automotive has confirmed that sales of the ultimate P1 supercar are off to a good start. The UK-based supercar maker says that sales are way ahead of expectations with ‘two-thirds’ of the 375 units already sold out.

Prices for the McLaren P1 start at $1.2 million.

“We are ahead of our targets and we still have 500 hot sales prospects on our list,” a senior McLaren manager said.

McLaren said that most of those sales have been in Europe, the United States and of course – the Middle East.

The McLaren P1 competes with the likes of the Ferrari LaFerrari and the Porsche 918 Spyder.

Power for the McLaren P1 comes from a 3.8 liter twin-turbo V8 gasoline engine mated to an electric-motor making 903-hp. Mated to a 7-speed dual clutch transmission, the P1 goes from 0 to 60 mph in 3 seconds with a top speed of 217 mph.
