Volkswagen has released the sketches of its most interesting debut for the Wörthersee festival this year. The project is known as the Design Vision GT, which looks into the future of the GTI.

“The striking “Design Vision GTI” is based on the seventh-generation GTI,” Volkswagen said in a statement. “The design team, led by Klaus Bischoff (Head of Design of Volkswagen Brand), has drawn the C-pillars and sills outward as autonomous body elements, thus creating space for substantially wider front and rear tracks, as well as specially developed 20-inch wheels (with 235 tires in the front and 275s at the rear).”

Powered by a 3.0 liter V6 TSI twin-turbo engine, the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI makes an outstanding 503-hp and 369 lb-ft of torque, with a maximum figure of 413 lb-ft at 4000 rpm. Mated to a DSG dual-clutch transmission and an all-wheel-drive system, the Volkswagen Design Vision GTI can go from 0 to 62 mph in just 3.9 seconds with a top speed of 186 mph.

In comparison, the seventh-generation Volkswagen GTI is powered by a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo making 240-hp. it goes from 0 to 62 mph in about 6.3 seconds.

Of course, Volkswagen has no plans to produce the Design Vision GTI – but it provides an interesting look into the future of the GTI hot-hatch.
