UPDATE: MAY 21, 2012 -NEW VIDEOS – The 2013 Shelby Mustang GT500 is one of the most highly anticipated muscle cars to come our way in years. With 5.8 Liters of blown V8, the 2013 Shelby is rated at an astounding 662 horsepower. With all that horsepower on tap, it will be interesting to see how well Ford’s Launch Control will do to keep Shelby owners from turning their rear tires into “time sapping” molten lava wheelspin. Recently, Ford let the media take a crack at the 2013 Shelby GT500 at Atlanta Dragway in Commerce, Georgia. Luckily, for 2 of the videos someone had the presence of mind to put their smart phone to good use and videotaped the action. We would have preferred HD quality video; however, we’ll take what we can get. The “kind of blurry” videos below shows a couple of 2013 Shelbys doing some burnouts, and using launch control to make a pass down the 1/4 mile. Our sources have told us that the 2013 Shelby is banging out the 1/4 mile in 11.7 – 11.8 at 121 – 123 mph with ease. If true, it will be interesting to see the 2013 Shelby GT 500 go head to head with Chevrolet’s new 580 horsepower ZL1 Camaro. ****UPDATE May 21, 2012 – Motor Trend 1/4 test results – 11.6 @ 125 mph *****
